Introduction of the department:

Dr. Ghali College was established in 1984 with view to impart higher education to students belonging to educationally weaker sections and depressed classes in the rural as well as hilly region of Gadhinglaj. College celebrated its Silver Jubilee year during 2008-2009. The college has maintained the standard of education in both conventional and modern courses.

The department of statistics has started its operations from the very inception of the science program in the college in the year 2004. Currently, the department offers B Sc in statistics and Diploma in Statistics. The department aims to train students in the development and applications of Statistical techniques for analyzing data arising in the scientific investigation of problems in various disciplines. It also provides first hand practical experience in handling modern statistical software in the analysis of such data viz Excel, R – Programming, SPSS, SAS and to make learner competent in the local as well as global competitive environment. In the present scenario, it is rather impossible, even to think of any field which does not employ modern statistical tools to arrive at rational conclusions from research studies and a statistician is always an indispensable part of any research team carrying out any research investigation. The duration of the B Sc statistics program is of six semesters, which is completed in three years while the Diploma is statistics program is of two semesters which should be completed by one year. The program is based on Choice-Based Credit System (CBCS) pattern and from this academic year 2024-2025 the program is being offered through NEP pattern.

Objectives of the Department:

1. To develop statistical and analytical skills amongst the learner.

2. To make learner familiar with new analytical / statistical software and programming tools.

3. To develop skills related to collection, presentation, analysis and interpretation of statistical data.
